future water availability and what can be done to preserve this vital resource.
Learn about water reclamation as part of the government’s approach
to protecting this community need.
Seed to Flower to Seed
Explore various flowering plant reproductive strategies and how
they are used to ensure plant survival. Identify and examine plant parts,
including flowers, fruits, and seeds to understand their role in the plant
life cycle. Simulate pollination methods and experience how outside forces
such as wind and insects contribute to plant reproduction and seed dispersal.
Birds of the Sonoran Desert– Habits and Habitats
Learn basic birdwatching techniques and immediately put these skills to
use by identifying numerous bird species on the property. Explore a variety
of bird habitats at the preserve and examine topics such as adaptations,
migration, and the importance of Arizona's waterways in preserving valuable
bird species.
Arizona's Ancient Peoples
Study the plants and artifacts believed to have been used by the original
peoples of this land, over 500 years ago. Understand the process of making
inferences based on observations and known facts. Compare the culture of
today's people to that of ancient Arizona people.
Desert Plant Adaptations
Compare and contrast survival mechanisms between desert and riparian
zone plants. Investigate and experience how different adaptations such as
drought tolerance, succulence, and drought evasion contribute to plant survival
in a desert environment.
Biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert
Examine the variety of plant and animal species that coexist in
this unique environment. Understand the connections and interdependence
within the desert and riparian ecosystems.
